found on youtube. i think it was the re-released 1973 version. abstruse. absolutely. also ancient. the look of 20s movies distracts me - it's the frame rate - and this is especially noticeable when movement is an important part of a scene, which is often the case here with the dancing and the spastic, repetitive, manic, or slow gestures of most everyone. the awareness that it was originally meant to be watched with a benshi and there being very little information without one is a consequence rather than a directorial decision did not help. totally worth watching for the style and, well, it's... read more

sem benshi é mais estética porque é muito fácil se perder e não entender nada. dito isto, é muito impressionante os efeitos visuais utilizados nesse filme, quase 100 anos depois, não perdeu o seu charme. read more
