this is an art movie through and through, all silence, static camera leading to empty frames, and black-and-white, obviously. i must say that, cinematographic virtues aside, the black-and-white actually fits in that it, on one side, goes well with a world of askesis and repression, and also in that it creates a distance and makes certain scenes more muted (the butchery, for example, or any scene involving nudity - especially the last one, which might have been unwatchable otherwise). i liked the combination of elyptic editing and the cuts, which create an unexpectedly quick pacing, and the... read more
