Metropolis is one of those films that definitely will stay with you long after you have seen it. When a film is from the silent era, there's always a risk of it being way too irrelevant because technology just wasn't there yet to tell a great story. I am of course talking about sound. this is a masterpiece of a movie. fritz lang's metropolis resonates with a number of issues that society still struggles with 90 years after it was made; the most prevalent being the ever present class warfare between the working class and the elite. the hands and the head, the workers doing the bidding of planners, never with complete trust in the other, but always reluctantly dependent on one another. what we get here is quite allegorical in todays fraught times. when an interloper comes along and starts spreading false news and lies in order to sow dissent between the classes and cause read

I have seen this three times now. I recently watched it for a third time, because a documentary on film music mentioned how the soundtrack was composed along with the movie to best fit the scenes. Since I didn't remember much about it from the earlier times I saw it, and since the second time I saw it was with a new synthetic soundtrack, I watched a restored version on YouTube to experience its original soundtrack.
