i always lump this in with lethal weapon and 48 hrs. as 80's action comedies with sequels that i watched a lot growing up, and this was the last one on my "revisit" list. surprise surprise: it's the best one of the lot. just an incredibly charming and concise detective story with eddie murphy's most humane character at the heart of it all. if you compare him with reggie hammond in 48 hrs. they're equally foul-mouthed, but axel foley's digs aren't empty and mean, they're gestures meant to break tension. and it works. not just on the audience, but everyone he comes across is eventually... read more
