blue, the first film in the three colors trilogy, with liberty as its subject as julie found herself being freed due to a very grievous circumstances, and she attempt to liberate herself from all former ties. ultimately a futile attempt. on a second watch i noticed that music has played integral part to the story. the same track played in the funeral for her world-renowned husband and daughter is used 4 other times in this movies, all with the same jarring style of a fade out accompanying this track, but only to discover we're brought back to the same scene. time barely passes, at least for... read

the music was used inappropriately in some scenes, and i would've prefered if the """symbolism""" was a bit more subtle. overall, still great and extremely well acted, particularly binoche. one of the most realistic character studies i've seen. read

@guzingurbuz-challenge pick #5 krszysztof kieslowski's blue is the first in the three colors series where he tells the story of a woman who copes or tries to cope with the aftermath of a tragic accident. kieslowski knows how to use his music as he wanders through the blue colored grief and redemption of julie, we see that blue has many shades in it, like the sun setting to reveal the reds and oranges hidden in the blue sky. as the final sequence arrives, it is not wrong to say that three colors: blue is kieslowski's rhapsody in blue. read

52 years 52 weeks 52 criterions 2020 1993 criterion collection project 2020 #3 watched on criterion collection blu-ray. ah, my first actual criterion collection watch of the year, and it's a good one. kieślowski continued his film making with a color theme here, dekalog with its grays, the double life of veronique with gold, and in this film, obviously blue. though, i have to say it's not as blue as i thought it would be. juliette binoche is wonderful as usual; here, she plays a wife and mother who loses her family due to a car accident and is dealing with her loss by trying to... read

Kieslowski truly is a great artist. Creating scenes with great emotional tension by using deceptively simple imagery. Everything adds up in perfect harmony: the music, the characters, the symbolism,... The slow pacing is reminiscent of a smart card player. Bluffing, fooling around, holding back. But the last scene shows the true Kieslowski: an artist at the top of his craft, showing us the inner workings of mankind and society. read

kieslowski is truly one of the greats. dealing with grief always seemed complicated and strange to me for some reason. and a fascinating concept. everyone has their way of going about it. some people cut off all ties with the past. and some find it convenient to shut their emotions off and carry on without ever addressing... before it all comes crashing down. the thing is coming into terms with losing someone is not that easy. it takes its sweet time and when it's time for letting go, be it a person or memories, it hurts like hell. juliette binoche puts one of the greatest read

A woman who has lost both her husband - a famed composer - and their son in a car accident she barely survived tries to overcome her grief by a radical detachment from every emotion or memory. The first feature in a trilogy inspired by the colors of the French flag (and the National motto, "liberty, equality, fraternity") explores its protagonist's desperate attempt to find freedom from sorrow in refusing any further involvement in life itself. A landmark role for Binoche, who conveys the steely determination of her protagonist in clamping up, while Kieslowski (and his co-writer, Krzysztof... read

It's been a long time since the mid 90"s that the Three Colours trilogy came out and unfortunately it's only been now to get to see the first one "Blue' Juliette Binoche gives a fantastic performance as a woman who endeavours to piece her life back together after a tragedy. Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski who was only previously known for documentaries makes a beautiful film with great cinematography also. read

Brilliant film with a amazing cinematography, a film that talk about one thing and how life move on after such a terrible event.
Very well made scenes that are made in such way that make you getting deeper in the characther and procecing what is passing in her mind, even with small scenes that are just made for you to see how she is felling in the moment and of course the music is also puted in a amazing way with amazing sequences, all that in a film is masterfull visual storytelling.
It's a piece of art. read
