an all-time great commentary on the horrors of war. it really focuses on the disconnect between the realities of war that the soldiers on the front lines are experiencing and the perception that the civilians back home have. by limiting the focus that they are german soldiers, it really emphasizes the similarities that all sides experience the horrors of war. it is very clear that this is an early sound film because several scenes are shot very similarly to silent films. the boys being riled up for war by their teacher was a great example of this. watched as part of scavenger hunt 43... read more
