Star Trek: The Motion Picture

did they really have to make this so dull and plodding? i had to make two attempts to get through this. the storyline itself is pretty cool. it's a great idea but they didn't have take their time over it. my mind was constantly wandering elsewhere. it's a shame as, on a techincal level, it's really quite a beautiful film. the set work is astounding. the sets are truly a work of wonder. oh well. onto wrath of khan i go! read more

[34] as a preface, i should state that this is my first time viewing anything star trek related. maybe i would have enjoyed this more had i seen some of the original series, but for now, it was majorly lackluster. the only strong positives i can commend the film for are the grandiose score and goofy — yet still competent — visuals. only through the use of both can the audience get truly acclimated within the environment that wise proposes. i don't necessarily have an issue with the film's slow pace, but it seems to have nothing fruitful to deliver within it's trotting tempo. the visual... read more
