so far, this is the only james cameron movie that i've watched which i can stand. almost all his negative tropes are here, however, there's some atrocious dialogue, broadly drawn characters and he lights in a way that extenuates the fakeness of the sets, drawing you out of the film. however, this is the only cameron film i've seen that is aware of this, and just lets itself be a shlocky b-movie with excellent tension. it's only around 100 minutes, the core idea is strong, memorable and the good kind of silly, and doesn't strive for some unearned epic and sentimental importance. read more
