buffalo bill scares me more than hannibal lecter because lecter is at least rational and i can almost understand him. i can't understand buffalo bill or predict what he will do, and that is terrifying. read more

It is astonishing how the team behind this movie accomplished a creepy atmosphere without overusing CGI. Especially Anthony Hopkins´s unsettling performance conveys Hannibal's cruel and intelligent nature without resorting to violence right away. Moreover, Starling´s panicked search for Buffalo Bill in his cellar and Hannibal´s genius escape give me goosebumps every time. Although I have to agree with dramagnu: I would choose Mads Mikkelsen's interpretation of Hannibal over Anthony Hopkins´s any day. read more

This movie does a great job at not making Clarice an active protagonist that doesn't fall into a Mary Sue archetype. The Movie was cleaver in how they treated Hannibal the Cannibal. But the Buffalo Bill Character was extremely problematic. Sure they tried their darndest but It was still very bad and the character wasn't even referred to with the right pronouns. Recently Jodie Foster, the woman who played Clarice, has recently come out to share her grown disapproval for the way the character was treated despite the queer community very vocally criticizing the movie at the time of it's release.... read more

1. 생뚱맞은 감상이긴 한데, 보다 보니 한니발이 스탈링에게 진짜로 반한 게 아닌가 하는 생각이 들었다. 사건이랑 직접적인 연관이 없는데 트라우마나 다름없는 과거를 계속 이야기 해달라고 들들 볶질 않나, (사생활도 캐려고 했던 건 덤) 처음 만났을 땐 스탈링에게 성추행을 한 정신병자를 다음 날 자살하게 하질 않나, 스탈링이랑 멀어질 거 같으니까 마틴 의원을 대놓고 모욕해서 볼티모어로 돌아가질 않나, 사건 파일 줄 때는 손가락을 살짝 만지기도 했고, 결정적으로 스탈링의 모습이 담긴 그림이 새 감옥 안에서 발견되기도 했지… 사건 해결 후에는 탈옥한 거 들킬 상황에서도 스탈링한테 굳이 전화로 안부 물어보기도 했고. 물론 무조건 반해서 그랬던 거라고 말하는 것도 무리가 있긴 하지만 (렉터 자신과 수준이 맞는 사람으로서 특별히 아꼈을 가능성도 있고) 수위를 낮추고 낮춰서 대입해서 보면 딱 연애 감정 생겨서 하는 행동들 아닌가… 더 알고 싶고, 지켜주고 싶고, 가까이에 있고 싶고, 만지고 싶고, 자꾸 그 사람 생각만 나고. 마침 원작 소설 시리즈 중에서 «한니발»도 있어서 계속 의심이 간다. 1-1. 갑자기 한니발 렉터가 원래 정신과 의사였던 게 생각났네. 그럼... read more
