my opinion is his ability to add a small part that dramatically improves a film in quality. for example, inception (2010) is actually nothing more than a 'simple' action movie, but because it introduces the concept of dreams, it suddenly becomes a memorable viewing experience. this also applies to insomnia. at first glance, a crime story with an interesting mystery, but as soon as the matching movie title comes into play in the plot things change. the sun does not set in this small town where the murder was committed. it is always light, so detective dormer (al pacino) has to deal with read more

"twin peaks would be so good if it wasn't so fucking... weird, man" - nolan, probably insomnia is a pretty straightforward crime thriller but that might honestly be a good thing because a nolan film that isn't 4 feet up its own ass is actually quite the pleasant surprise. on top of that, insomnia also lacks any sort of nolan style so i was left wondering if this really was directed by him. i guess it's decent for what it is - nothing special or fancy and largely carried by two strong performances and chemistry between its lead actors, but overall i wouldn't really recommend this to anyone.... read more
