i can appreciate what hal ashby was doing with this film, but i just couldn't really connect to it. ruth gordon gives a tremendous performance as maude, but i just hate the character. she is an anarchist who doesn't care about anyone else and causes harm to others without any concern. harold is a more sympathetic character, but i really didn't care much about him. i didn't dislike him, but i wasn't really rooting for him either. it is a quirky, unique film and i can really understand why people like it, but it's just not for me. watched as part of scavenger hunt 41 my list | kb burke's... read more

for some reason, earlier today in class when we were talking about love, i remembered this movie, which is funny, because while the most notable aspect is the relationship between harold and maude (that's why it's called that) death also has a tremendous presence here. literally, just two minutes in harold is shown hanging himself and then somehow nothing happens to him. that's insane. this whole movie is insane. in the next 20 minutes harold "commits suicide" like three times with nothing happening to him, cat stevens sings the same amount of times, and maude steals a vocho and a hearse. the... read more
