And just like that, I have fallen in love with a genera. I love the aesthetic, the color palette, THE SOUNDTRACK, the red opening credits, the extreme closeups, the mannerisms, the accents, the final duel,.... basically the whole of what makes a Spaghetti Western. Beautiful. read more

yeah this movie is a copy of yojimbo but yojimbo is a good and fun film which also makes this a good and fun film. the pacing in this one is better than it's japanese counterpart, but mifune is better than eastwood and sanjuro is a more interesting character than the man with no name. otherwise they are pretty equal. i prefer yojimbo a bit more personally but i'd recommend either movie read more

definitely weaker than g/b/u but goddamn if clint eastwood doesn't command the screen. ennio morricone's score helps a lot too. all in all some really fun scenes and characters, but nothing incredible. read more

this is the film that introduced clint eastwood to the world (well made him a star)... this is the film that introduced sergio leone to the world... this is the first film in probably the greatest western trilogy of all time... this is a film that defined the look and feel of westerns for generations to come (and still holds true today)... this is a film with fantastic camera work and an even better score... this is a film that needs to be watched right now if you have not seen it... this is the start of the man with no name... production design: 9 out of 10 cinematography: 10 out of 10 read more

it's funny watching this for the first time when your initial exposure to the entire yojimbo concept was 1999's inferno starring jcvd. obviously it's not as good as that, but it's pretty good. read more

Having seen Yojimbo now since the last time I watched A Fistful of Dollars, I can't help but give demerits for how blatant a remake it is. It's still a great movie, not just because of the great story and film it bases itself on, but also because of Sergio Leone's direction and the wonderful cinematography and score. And, of course, Clint Eastwood is iconic in the role. read more

Realising that both this and Yojimbo are just an excuse to make a loosely plotted movie set in a small town where a guy is just very cool and wins a couple fights. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I still struggle to properly settle into this one, but the level of craft is just so admirable, particularly Morricone's magical score, and the closing scene is an absolute all timer. read more

You can tell Sergio Leone was still trying to find his voice in this, which is the main factor that dragged it down for me. It may have created the subgenre Spaghettiwestern - which I am grateful for - but I was not invested in the otherwise fantastic plot. Every antagonist, this film has, were really boring to watch. read more
