is it trying too hard to be scorsese? derivative? homage? does it matter? whatever though, it was very, very good. i watched this on the back of having just watched vincent cassel in sur mes lèvres, which i really enjoyed. he's good in that, but in this he's absolutely superb. back in the mid 90s, this was one of the only foreign language movies that i and my pals had even heard of. i suppose being a 20-something male is the reason for that - mean streets, taxi driver, all the usual young man kinda stuff. i'm not sure why i never saw this at the time. and, given my love of french cinema as a... read more
