i came at this film originally not as a fan of the director or his big breakout film, amores perros, but as a fan of the three main leads: sean penn, benicio del toro, and naomi watts. and i was not disappointed in that respect. all three give great performances, especially watts, and are also surrounded by solid turns from many lesser-known actors. but i left that theater feeling it was a film i very much wanted to like and connect with, but just couldn't. i'd never heard of this unaccounted-for 21 gram difference between someone's weight before and after death, and the film didn't elaborate... read more
