Having seen it for the first time 28 years later after the movie was made, I can say it's way overrated. In fact it's not a good movie at all.
It can definitely be brutal - after all that's one of Tarantino's signatures - and there are a few good moments, but it's lacking something else to raise it to the rating it holds. And even worse is the fact there are way too many issues with it.
Things that break the suspension of disbelief: the shot in the stomach but not dying, the make up story of cops hanging out in the bathroom, the bullet in the head and not dying, the standup about killing an already dying man.
But there is definitely something interesting about it: the importance of telling a story. And this movie is story telling many other stories.
Not a good movie. Instead it was a prototype to Pulp Fiction.
