i thought this was an atmospheric mystery thriller, but somewhat let down by the ending. the atmosphere of the film was well maintained throughout, with the killings suitably distributing. i thought bill nighy was well cast as the policeman, who shows great compassion, in particular to the mistreated, and i think this reflects the overall tone of the film. i think ultimately the final reveal was a bit too arch and knowing, but perhaps this was in part because i knew enough to figure it out. read

a serviceable little thriller that offers little beyond deft performances and rich atmosphere. the audience, like the londoners in the movie, will have their thirst for gore sated, but if you're looking a well written mystery... keep looking. the movie hums along on the strength of its characters and the excellent acting on display, but its story is not its strong suit. i guessed who the killer was right away, and even while the movie offered a couple other suspects, i low key knew i was right throughout. see, a good mystery either has you entirely baffled, or absolutely sure that you know... read
