here is a movie that is not for everyone. by that i mean if you are homophobic, uncomfortable with differences, not open to other experiences, not a film lover or close minded you will hate this film. i am none of those so obviously i didn't hate this film. transamerica tells an age old tale of self discovery. it tells it through a trans-gendered individual, one who has un unknown son who himself is rather screwed up. they meet up, lie to each other, go on a road trip and in the process discover who they really are. this was a good little movie. i rather liked it. it is filled with great performances, especially the lead role played by felicity huffman. it is filled with pathos and sadness and yet it is somewhat uplifting. it's funny at times, it's really dramatic at other times. it's very unique and coming out in 2005 and getting nominated for awards which in turn allows more people to discover the movie is kind of unique and one of the first major transgender films to be so highly recognized and well known. my only beef with this movie (okay i have a few but this is the only one worth mentioning) is that other than huffman's plight and journey and character, the other's are perhaps a tad overly dramatic but then i guess that is needed in order to get the story across. well worth seeing but again only if you are none of those things listed above... 79/100
