man was i look forward to this film. i really liked once (john carney's first film) and i loved loved loved begin again (his second film) and i knew i would love this film. and i did. it was so charming and so funny and so real (in a romantic movie kind of way--if that makes any sense), the characters were great, the lead was like super cool (when he gets digits boy did he pull that off well) and the music was just amazing. a john carney film is nothing if not for the music and this film kills it when it comes to both the original songs and the selected classic tracks from the 80's. the original songs were spot on for their era and there is no way that at least half of them wouldn't of been chart toppers had they actually been recorded and released back then. sing street is basically a musical but plays unlike many musicals you have seen before. it incorporates music into the story, into plot devices, into sequences of the film but it is nota break out and sing kind of musical even though that happens quite a bit. this movie was everything i wanted it to be and now i can't, but have to, wait for carney's next film. he sure knows how to make a crowd pleaser. production design: 9 out of 10 cinematography: 8 out of 10 re-playability: 10 out of 10 originality: 8 out of 10 costumes: 9 out of 10 directing: 9 out of 10 editing: 9 out of 10 acting: 9 out of 10 music: 10 out of 10 script: 9 out of 10 90/100
