this movie is fun. it's not very good (when compared to the first) and it's generic as hell but it's enjoyable and a decent sequel that could never equal the masterful original. the first half is a carbon copy of the first film. repeating the beats of story only amping up the effects and carnage (although much less gore). the second half is like a slasher flick as the shark pick's off a bunch of generic teens and keith gordon. like i said it's not very good but it's a lot of fun and well worth watching. this of course is all due to the return of the original cast (minus a sorely missed ricky... read more

tries to both be jaws and a brainless teen slasher which isn't the best match (especially at 2 hours). if it were up to me i'd just committed to the latter, given it a dumb high concept hook, and cut 40 minutes. i guess they felt it was a little early for desperation just yet. still, i enjoyed it. a bunch of nondescript teens ain't dreyfuss & shaw; and szwarc ain't spielberg which is mostly felt on a technical level. some scenes weirdly lack, or even avoid impact, but then sometimes you also get shit violently blowing up at the drop of a hat which i like a lot too. read more
