following the advent of sound cinema, the movie has gotten smaller and the silent era folks just can't fit in. with knowledge of what half of the casts' filmography prior this film and then watching this must be a delight, something that i had not been able to experience. dialogue is witty and sharp enough to stubbornly stuck in your head, a very quotable movie. gloria swanson with her parodic acting and her demented body language that simply felt so out of place with other acting. a delusional 53 year old reclusive film star that had such possessive and manipulative wrath that slowly unfolds... read more

conflicted on this one. definitely liked it fair bit, but i do think it's a bit overhyped. writing was excellent, acting was good across the board with the two leads, william holden and gloria swanson, overshadowing pretty much everyone else. i don't know, all the parts in this film were good but it never really clicked for me on the whole. i'll have to give it a second watch soon. i have a feeling it will click for me then. read more
