THEY'RE HERE!!! Ah, good ol' Poltergeist... You know how sometimes good things happen... just because? Because the stars were aligned and stuff like that? That's exactly what we have here. I mean... it's a movie that was written by a man behind E.T. (with a help from the guys who co-wrote Death Hunt) and directed by the twisted mind behind The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Sounds pretty weird and random, and... in a way it is. I mean, it's a pretty basic and straightforward story with nothing really special in it, and sometimes it may even feel forced. And yet... it's pretty awesome, read more

52 years in 52 weeks 2018 1982 hooptober 5 #19 horror x52 2018 week 19 - suitable for children (no 15/18/r ratings) watched on warner bros blu-ray. so i picked poltergeist in horror x52 because it was rated pg in the united states (while i still lived in the us), but here in the uk it is rated 15. oh well. my first hooper movie was eaten alive and i wasn't a huge fan of that movie, but poltergeist is my second hooper and it is a massive improvement. i don't know if it is because of spielberg being producer, but this definitely feels like a spielberg movie. it just has that magic... read more

this was an absolute delight, watching with my little brothers (their first time) and on vhs on an old tv no less. it completed that old school analog experience. we had pizza, they jumped, we laughed, they loved it. i'm happy to know my younger brothers aren't the kind of tweens who'd dismiss a movie out of hand just because it's "old". i'd like to think i had something to do with that. but, more likely than not, poltergeist is just that good that it's still making 13 year old kids freak out over thirty years after its release. i love this movie, but watching it with them made it that much... read more

part of obligatory october of horror ah fuck, it's the 80s. the kind of annoying suburban us family funime 80s i absolutely despise. granted, family-friendly seemed to mean something different because this definitely seems to have traumatized a lot of kids, but it's still got that feel to it. and the look. and the sound. and even aside from that, it's just got lots of annoying things going on. it's got several instances of the american national anthem playing and someone reads a book about ronald raegan. i especially enjoyed the scene of a mother laughing at her daughter getting harassed by a... read more

My quick rating - 5;5/10. Very large shoes to fill; and even with the behind the scenes power; they still couldn't capture the magic of the original. Still worth a look; and the added time for the effects was worth it. I still felt a bit slighted by the story. I think it may have been missing a scene or two; but that is besides the point. Overall good production; didn't disappoint; nor turn heads. I am trying my best not to rip on this movie because it isn't worth being negative about...just the comparison. Enjoy. read more

poltergeist. dirigida por tobe hooper y producida por steven spielberg. no me ha impactado tanto como las primeras veces que la ví. la recordaba más terrorífica y a dia de hoy ya no lo parece tanto, incluso diría que un terror caduco. un terror basado en monstruos tipo fantasmas verdes que aparecen en la casa. eso sí, hay que darle el valor de su epoca y algunas de sus escenas han pasado a la posterioridad como la niña enfrente del televisor, el 'ya están aquí', el arbol que se ve desde la ventana con la tormenta, los esqueletos de la piscina. todo un clásico del terror de los 80.... read more
