the killing fields is a movie that is stuck between two stories it is trying to tell and never is able to figure out how to fuse them to make a cohesive whole. it isn't as if both of the stories aren't well done. they are. however, they never come together to become something greater and the film's inability to commit to one of the stories over the other when its clear that the stories are not coalescing puts a cap on how good the film can be. the film feels too disjointed at points and certain passages of the film become rambling more than they service the strengthening of the narrative. the... read more
