so that's another addition to my ever-growing list of films that i appreciate on a technical level but just absolutely didn't connect with. this is definitely a really well made film, especially for 1927, and its story is surprisingly dark for something from this time period but as a story it simply didn't resonate with me. now, that may well be related to that whole aromanticism thing and my general nearly universal dislike of romance stories but i feel like there was something else missing from this, but as usual i have absolutely no idea what that something might be. maybe a story with read

This oddly titled film is not that bad actually. a story about a man who is basically divided between two different women - one being his wife. what is the standout for me is how visually stunning it was, considering the movie was made in 1927. I was lucky enough to find a decent copy of this silent film which had been restored making the experience even better. read

Before the movie starts properly, Sunrise professes that life is sometimes bitter and sometimes sweet, and that is exactly what this film is; a bittersweet symphony of life and love. Flamboyant German director, F.W. Murnau directs this film with a great love and precision, his direction in the movie is flawless. Sunrise features very little story cards, and it almost totally told with just visuals and music.
