Nanook of the North

for a film made in 1922 this was excellent and way ahead of its time. for a silent film this was very enjoyable and felt a lot shorter than its 78 minute runtime. nanook of the north is a documentary about naonok, a native (or eskimo as is called in this film) made by an everyday traveler who befriended him on said travels. and it's pretty fascinating. this film is almost 100 years old and besides the camera stock (and lack of dialogue) you would never know. the images captured by the filmmaker are truly astounding. not in a, my god what a beautiful shot kind of way, but more of a 'i can't... read more

it's alright, mostly. it deserves credit for being one of the earliest documentaries ever filmed, although its execution feels a bit like a live action adaptation of a children's book about the inuit people,sometimes even feeling like a fictional story. but, most of it manages to deliver what it aims to in a quite enjoyable way. 7.2/10 read more
