The Columbus Harry Potter films are just abysmal filmmaking. Apart from Neville standing up to his pals in the first film, I can't think of a single bit of storytelling or actual drama in either of them. His Harry is a non character who walks around being told how awesome he is and then saves the day because he's Harry Potter. Like, that's literally the reason given in the script. I never liked the books as a kid and maybe that's a problem there, but there are ways to make that work in an adaptation, so long as you actually put in an actual story. the movie was nice it is a lengthy movie but the suspense of the movie which made me stick to the movie. the story starts strong it feels little slow in the middle but the climax of movie is little average for me. and the fight of harry and ginat snake was also little disappointing. but still overall i quite enjoyed the movie. read more

the second film definitely has a much darker tone than the first, being much more involved with death. it is less targeted at children, with scary monsters like the basilisk and aragog. the sets and special effects were outstanding and better than the first film, recapturing the magic of the first while giving hogwarts a darker past. kenneth branagh stood out as lockhart in a role that was mostly comedic relief. the film did feel a little too long, but there were no specific parts that felt really unnecessary, besides for maybe dobby, who doesn't actually add much to the story. i don't read more

THE BIG 2021 HP-REWATCH ----------------------------------------------- So you're telling me that in the whole magical world there are no fully grown mandrakes and that Hogwarts is the only place that has them, leaving the petrified victims out cold for half a movie? coming after the original and before prisoner of azkaban, some people tend to overlook this film or unfairly malign it. but its great strength is in deepening and enriching the wizarding world while doubling down on what worked in the first film. when something was done in the original, another director could have come in and jettisoned that and done their own thing. by establishing what elements we would continue to see and build on, director chris columbus essentially established the harry potter film world for all movies to come. so besides deepening and extending, what new does this film... read more

this is a jumbled mess thats less of a film than reenactments of key events from rowlings sophomore novel haphazardly put together for the underage fans of the book only. its beyond ridiculous that director chris columbus doesnt even try to organically connect the scenes together and make sense out of them. and of course, any false lead from the book has been taken out so that the audience however young can follow the film with ease (i.e. with the film, you never wonder who the bad guys are because its so plainly obvious). im not trying to argue how this movie adaptation has ruined rowlings... read more

Of course we watched Harry Potter 1 in Media Studies last year and now the sequel for English class. I've always found the earlier installements in the franchise to be a bit too corny for my taste and I've never been the biggest fan of the universe, I'll admit that.
