connery seemed very uncomfortable in this one. i'm not sure if it was the change of tone or that he was only doing it for the money. for me, this marks the start of the comedy truly invading the bond franchise. just before bond flips mr wint over the edge of the ship they go for a comedy moment of his balls being crushed. why? they managed to make two characters, who should have been menacing, quite ridiculous. read

the franchise challenge - james bond diamonds are forever: i thought we had turned a corner with goldfinger but my days theyve just gotten worse & worse. thunderball hurt my eyes, casino royal (david niven) hurt my ears and you only live twice hurt my brain. and now this has just hurt me all over ... plenty otoole is the worst name ive heard yet as well. im hoping roger moores era helps me stick with this mind dumbing trip through the back catalogue of the bond-verse!! - 1/2⭐️ read

this was extremely bond. it really leaned in to all of the bond tropes and not really in a good way. connery is a much better bond than lazenby was, but charles gray was a much worse blofeld than telly savalas or donald pleasence. read
