it didnt do it for me, sadly. and no, its not because i think woody allen is a creep (he is) but thats not the reason why i dislike this film. im not that kind of a cheap person who use a biased filter to judge ones work based on their personality (okay, i got weirded out by 42 year old guy having a sexual relationship with an underage woman, but i wont just discredit the work just because of that). i like annie hall, okay. well, kinda. and i always liked mumblecore rom-com where nothing is actually happening. but this movie lacks something that makes a good mumblecore rom-com. i dont get any... read

manhattan was pretty good, definitey my favorite allen of the three ive seen. with this, im starting to at least like woody allens romantic and nostalgic style of writing/directing. it worked here when it didnt in midnight in paris. the musics great, the black and white is beautiful, and there are some real pretty shots in this movie. its also very funny, woody allens a surprisingly great comedic actor. when it comes to dramatic acting, which thankfully there isnt much, hes pretty bad though. theres just one scene that comes to mind where he just has this dumb look on his face while trying to... read

my ideal romantic comedy movie. fascinatingly honest story, hilariously brilliant dialogue, 10 on 10 cinematography, sound that perfectly captures the essence of the movie. so far ahead of its time. i really liked the little silent anecdotes that happened from time to time, they helped keep the movie from getting too stressful. and the biggest plus point, its based in my fav city on earth. instant favorite. it bothers me how much i relate to the fact that every line that ike says is him trying to be funny. ps: how will we ever replace woody allen? read

this is a near perfect film. from script to directing to acting to cinematography to locations to music to everything in between there is nothing wrong with this movie. at times it is laugh out load funny, at others it is dramatic and sad. if it wasn't done before then manhattan is the film that solidifies woody as a genius, a legend, one of the greatest american (or anywhere) filmmakers alive (or dead). it really is pretty much perfect... 98/100 read

the first woody allen movie i've seen. i got caught up in the use of lights in some scenes. the camera angles were transferred cleanly. you can say now that the movie is bored slowly progressing. but not in the scenes i laugh at. we see that the character does not see himself as a narcissist, but in the end it happens. yale is a complete bastard. read

A Woody Allen classic filmed this time in black and white which doesn't detract from the film at all.Great performances by Woody himself but also featuring Diane Keaton and a young Meryl Streep.New York again is the backdrop and the movie might make you fall in love with New York as Woody's character mentions in the movie.Lots of dialogue but just the right movie length.Timeless classic read

Manhattan
Roger Ebert March 18, 2001
I had forgotten what perfect pitch Woody Allen brought to ''Manhattan"-- how its tone and timing slip so gracefully between comedy and romance. I hadn't seen it in years, and remembered mostly the broad outlines, the one-liners, the romance between a middle-aged man and a high school girl. Seeing it again I realize it's more subtle, more complex, and not about love, but loss. There are a lot of songs on the soundtrack, but the one that speaks for the hero says ''they're playing songs of love, but not for me.''
