I didnt really enjoy this. And I kinda expected a lot because its John Carpenter. But when I think about it the story is kinda just silly. Like it makes sense yes but its just a weird kinda story. I didnt care for any particular character. And I didnt get much of my girl Jamie Lee Curtis. It was just a mediocre film. Nothing special about it for me. read

my personal favorite of carpenter's. when janet leigh snaps out of her grief, takes the book from hal holbrook, and flawlessly rattles off the terms of the pirate curse, i love it. 100 read

the first time i saw the fog was back when i ws 15. me and my horror movie buddy at the time were huge carpenter fans and had either just seen or were about to see in the mouth of madness in theatres. we both hated the fog. we were bored and it looked just awful. this was on video and pan and scanned and probably played a hundred times or so. so today i have reached the fog and i hope to change my tune. it's on dvd, it's widescreen and i'm older and more appreciative of things i might not liked or understood as a wee teen. i don't expect to think this film is amazing but it's gotta be better... read

i think what i appreciated most about the fog is that the characters quickly become aware they are in a horror movie, but don't directly address it. this isn't scream where they are discussing the rules or anything, but everyone immediately accepts that there is some evil in the fog as soon as they encounter something even a little unusual. that means that even though we as the audience are ahead of the characters, they aren't behaving in ways that are clearly irrational to us. read

i think this is the first time that the fog has really clicked for me. i got the new 4k restoration by studio canal, nestled myself in the couch burrito style, and said fuck it it's my birthday i wanna get into this. and i did. not right away, but just like the titular fog it just crept up on me and boom, i finally loved it. read

film 80 of obligatory october of horror ii jumpscare counter: like 10 shitty weak ones and 2 actual ones someday i'm gonna learn that when my mom says a horror film was good when she watched it back in the day, i should avoid it. this was so goofy. literally nothing scary about this; could have been an x-files episode from one of the later forgettable seasons. pacing was sort of all over the place and i honestly found myself getting bored for a larger portion of the runtime than i was actually invested. the only thing scary about this is that i'm planning to rewatch the thing and now i'm read

Day 25th of HoopTober (A week of Halloween classics of mine): One of my favorite of John Carpenter's. Very moody and full of dread, with great performances and fantastic directing. Still to this day any rolling fogs always give me the creeps because of this movie like "Jaws" with open water. 'All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.'

I'm baffled that this Carpenter film flies under the radar. It's not very bloody, but it has this incredible vibe.
I recommend watching it past midnight like I did. Good fun! read

The Fog opens with a weathered old seaman telling a group of young children the tale of a vessel called the Elizabeth Dane which was deliberately shipwrecked off the coast of Antonio Bay, killing its crew and sinking its riches. The valuable cargo was stolen and then used by the town to benefit the church, however legend tells of the fated crew of the Dane returning to the Bay to seek revenge on those whose ancestors were involved in this tragic event. Far from just being a story to keep wide-eyed children awake at night, the sudden arrival of a strange fog brings with it the ghosts of the... read

53/100 Что-то безобразно короткое и пустое кино. 80 минут очень мало, если учитывать что всё главное действие было в последние 15 минут. Но даже так Карпентер сумел напустить атмосферы и предугадать вейпы. read
