objectively, yes it was a masterpiece. a cinematic epic in the true sense of the word. subjectively, it was a bloated, neverending bore-fest. yes, i am the queen of the philistines. sue me. read more

the first half of the film is damn near perfection. the cinematography is gorgeous, the acting is superb, and the score is the greatest in the history of film. lawrence is unknowable and the film understands that and doesn't attempt to fit him into a box. peter o'toole is incredible and delivers an all-time performance. omar sharif and alec guinness are fantastic as well. i know guinness would never be acceptable as prince faisal now, but i'm glad he was cast because his performance is as good as it possibly could be. the second half is nowhere near enjoyable, though i understand why. read more
