Epic and luscious!
The soundtrack! The cinematography! A feast for the senses. And the final restored version is truly majestic.
Almost 60 years after it was released, in 1962, Lawrence of Arabia, has stood the test of time quite well.
The main critique is it's slow pace at times (when compared with today's film making), and at 3h47m of running time it feels a bit too long. The other was the ending, it felt a bit anti climactic.
The movie tells the story of an incredible man who did extraordinary things. Who helped shape what the Middle East is today. A complex and unique character. Who survived inumerous battles, only to die in a driving accident back home. The movie also shows the toll of war, of death, of killing, in Lawrence. And his disappointment with the political games being played by both sides.
On the negative side, the whole subplot of someone falling off the camel and no one noticing it until hours later, it's quite silly. And returning back for him, but not bringing a camel, silly twofold it is.

[Lawrence has just extinguished a match between his thumb and forefinger. William Potter surreptitiously attempts the same]
William Potter: Ooh! It damn well 'urts!
T.E. Lawrence: Certainly it hurts.
Officer: What's the trick then?
T.E. Lawrence: The trick, William Potter, is not minding that it hurts.

Mr. Dryden: Big things have small beginnings, sir.

Lawrence: "I cannot fiddle, but I can make a great state from a little city"
Allenby: What?
Lawrence: Themistocles, sir, a Greek philosopher.
Allenby: I know you've been well educated Lawrence. It says so in your dossier. You're the kind of creature I can't stand Lawrence.

Tafas: [talking of Britain] Is that a desert country?
T.E. Lawrence: No: a fat country. Fat people.
Tafas: You are not fat?
T.E. Lawrence: No. I'm different.

Sherif Ali: What is your name?
T.E. Lawrence: My name is for my friends.
[Ali walks away]
T.E. Lawrence: None of my friends is a murderer.

General Allenby: You acted without orders, you know.
T.E. Lawrence: Shouldn't officers use their initiative at all times?
General Allenby: Not really. It's awfully dangerous.
...
General Allenby: I'm promoting you to Major.
T.E. Lawrence: I don't think that's a very good idea.

Sherif Ali: Truly, for some men nothing is written unless they write it.

Prince Feisal: In this country Mr Bentley, the man who gives victory in battle is prized beyond every other man.

T.E. Lawrence: There may be honor among thieves, but there's none in politicians.

Jackson Bentley: You answered without saying anything. That's politics.

T.E. Lawrence: [while ordering the attack against the Turks that ransacked the village] No prisoners! No prisoners!

General Allenby: Not many people have a destiny Lawrence. It's a terrible thing for a man to funk it if he has.
T.E. Lawrence: You're speaking from experience?
General Allenby: No.
T.E. Lawrence: You're guessing then.

Prince Feisal: Illusions can be very powerful.

T.E. Lawrence: [to Sherif Ali, after rescuing Gasim] Nothing is written.

A bit slow. About Lawrence's emotional struggles with the violence inherent in war, his identity and his allegiance between Britain/Arabs.
