my family watched this and the shining back to back in the middle of the night at the start of winter, and i gotta say there's no other way to experience either of them. the practical effects, the creeping score, the terrifying claustrophobia and paranoia associated with the thought of an inescapable, chameleon like threat? no better pick for family movie night! read more

i have not watched many john carpenter movies but he is fast becoming one of my favorite director, all the hype around it was real and now i want to watch halloween as soon as possible. im not a huge fan of cgi esp. bec of the excessive use these days, this movie proves even to this day that practical effects done right can be as effective if not more. the remarkable suspense and atmosphere added with thrilling paranoia and claustrophobia made it a treat. most of the cast were incredible and the scores made it an absolute gem. 8.5/10 read more

Rather than being another cheap monster movie The Thing induces paranoia by elevating mistrust and suspicion between its characters.

Very effective horror with some groundbreaking practical effects, excellent acting, interesting story and genuinely scary moments.
