too much brawn & brown (sepia). an intricately rendered depiction of an interesting nugget of world history, but for all its detailed glittering, oft gory pixels, the movie has a vacuous and heady effect on the viewer, perhaps through butler's (all-too-convincing) grunty vapid dialog. read more

this movie is both a great adaptation of the original comic book and based on a great battle of history. if you have not seen this movie yet and you enjoy movies that get your heart beating.it may not be historically accurate. the plot may not be intricate or interesting. but this film rocks for its amazing action. the line, this is sparta!!! will be bellowed by people worldwide forever! read more

film adaptations whether they're tv, musical, novel, or in the case of '300', graphic novel are always risky. the director has to worry about what to keep from the original material, what to take out, & what to add in order to make the final product considered great. all those things are equally important and if even one is flawed the others could be comprised no matter how good they may be. in second-time director zack snyder's big screen take on frank miller's 1998 graphic novel there are many visual effects but really not much else. the odd thing is that's actually a good thing. a very read more

style over substance they will say, well i dont mind. i really like style over substance in most movies, because it makes them stand out. of course it shouldnt be replicated a lot. but in this one it works. read more

da hätte ich mehr erwartet... extrem durchschnittlich und zeitweise fast schon schlecht. die special effects, kostüme und kulissen sind teilweise wirklich grenzwertig. auch die geschichte rund um die frau, ist komplett überflüssig und dient keinem narrativen zweck. irgendwie hat das stumpfe gekloppe dann aber doch etwas und wirklich schlecht ist jetzt auch nichts... this is sparta! read more

My uncle was undoubtedly the person who got me into films. He loved ancient Greece and her history. He shared that passion and intrest on to me when we watched this film and the sequel together. Rest in peace Pier ❤️ read more

Story: 8 Visuals: 7 Sound: 7 Character: 10 Enjoyment: 9

Amazing storytelling! (good pacing too)

Watching this movie with the thought "This is a parallel universe and more like a comic book than a real event" saved me from the pain of how this movie portrayed the Persians and Asians as ugly monstrous giant greedy idiots. Love the ending, it's just beautiful.

Oddly fascinating...

Aside from the weird yellowy color scheme, noise effect, and obvious fake CGI blood, everything else is beautiful~ especially, the focused slow-motion spartan fight scene (legit gave me chills).
