rocky ii picks up right where part i finished. actually it starts just before part i finished and repeats the end and then takes place right after. i loved the first film and was stoked for this one but i knew it wouldn't be as good. i was right.
so it starts with a bang recapping the end of the first and then we have rocky, retired, trying to make a life for himself. he tries acting, he tries getting an office job, he tries factory work. nothing works for him. he gets married, he has a kid, but something is missing. apollo creed wants a rematch, he wants to prove that rocky is a chump. rocky says no, until eventually...
so this movie is a pretty good sequel and features all the characters from the first film returning. the first half hour is a lot of fun as we see the after effects of the fight on rocky's life. but then it drags in the middle, not much happens and too much happens at the same time. you just bide your time waiting for the rematch to happen.
and man when it does does the movie kick into high gear. really, the last half hour is the training and the fight and it pretty much beat for beat copies the first film, only more extras, sharper cinematography (but not as good), the same epic score and a final boxing match that is just as exciting.
the last half hour was just amazing it's just to bad the middle of the film lagged a bit. i still really enjoyed this movie and loved watching stallone and the rest reprise their roles. stallone himself doesn't deliver as a good a performance as the last time around but he is still loveable and innocent and just a real nice guy. you just can't help but root for him.
of course it didn't live up to the oscar winning first part but it is still a great sequel. it could of been tighter, 15 minutes shorter but regardless it was a great return for characters that you love and a worthy addition to a so far great franchise.
