Review of Pelts

well that was great. that was really really great. meatloaf and john saxon in a film directed by dario argento that is disturbing, ultra gory and filled with sex and nudity. was argento thinking of me when he made this? another great episode in the short lived but pretty damn good masters of horror, pelts tells the story of a fur maker and his obsession with finding perfect furs and his obsession with a stripper he likes. again, this was awesome. before i go into why i thought it was awesome let's just mention a few of the not so good things (not bad things but things that could of been better). the final scenes music was weak more so since it followed a really really solid score that equal parts enjoyable and scary. the acting wasn't the best at the beginning but it got better and better as i watched. the way meatloaf's character was obsessed with pelts and the dialogue that he and others spoke was like they couldn't talk about anything but pelts. it was almost humorous in it's overuse. so what was good about this film. so much. it was filled with crazy committed performances. meat loaf was great in this, especially in the end. john saxon was so good i didn't even know it was him at the beginning. the lead actress was great because she was naked almost the whole time. i would say that her ass was out 70% of her screen time and her tits were out 95% of the time. plus there is lesbian cunnilingus complete with cum on the face. now that's commitment. the music was fantastic (until the end that is) and the cinematography was sharp, colourful and beautiful just like argento's work in his heyday. the sets and locations looked great and really helped sell the story. the raccoon furs looked amazingly real for example. the story is great and eerie and tragic and dark and twisted, just what i like. but the best thing about this film (besides the abundant nudity) is the gore and what gore it is. i've seen some good gore in my life and i tell you pelts is some of the best. it looks amazing and it is at times super disturbing. from dead raccoons to bloody skinning of raccoons to baseball bat deaths and bear trap body part removal to cutting yourself open to sewing yourself shut to skinning yourself alive the gore here is just top notch. so there you have it. if you like gore and nudity then this film is for you. you'll love it. if you don't, well then i don't think you'd be reading this review. pelts is a great masters of horror episode and even more so a great dario argento movie. i'm thinking the show just peaked (i have 6 more episodes to go). production design: 9 out of 10 cinematography: 8 out of 10 re-playability: 8 out of 10 originality: 9 out of 10 costumes: 9 out of 10 directing: 9 out of 10 editing: 8 out of 10 acting: 7 out of 10 music: 8 out of 10 script: 8 out of 10 83/100
