non-stop heart-thumping action... the first full-length cinematic movie that had that sort of effect on me read

following the box office disappointment that was last action hero, mctiernan set his eyes upon returning to the series that made him a force to be reckoned with; to the series that made his career and the career of bruce willis; to the series that redefined the action movie. in 1995, john mctiernan returned to the directing chair for die hard with a vengeance. watching vengeance it becomes clear what a good action director mctiernan is. while not as good as the original, it is far superior to the first sequel die hard 2. part 2, directed by renny harlin, is not a bad film, and is still better... read

the franchise challenge - die hard genre list challenge - 90s action die hard with a vengeance: simon says that this sequel is much better than die hard 2 ... and i wound have to agree with simon. john mcclean running around new york completing tasks to satisfy the whims of crazy simon gruber, hanss bro. he also gets himself a buddy in zeus. this actually worked. good action, dialog less cheesy, not to many horrible one liners and sam jackson holds his own against bruce. the ending is a little off for me and it could have been shorter. but yeah, definitely better than part 2 in this franchise... read

for john mcclane's third cinematic adventure john mctiernan returns behind the camera, as does the gruber family in front of it. the third film picks up as mcclane, who is once again estranged from his wife and is a borderline alcoholic, is suspended from the new york police department. that suspension comes to an abrupt end as an enigmatic terrorist (irons) blows up a department store on a crowded manhattan block and tells the police another one will blow if mcclane doesn't follow his instructions. mcclane soon finds himself allied with harlem pawn shop owner zeus carver (jackson) by read

es el claro ejemplo de como refrescar una franquicia sin volverse repetitivo. la acción y las actuaciones están en su mejor punto. no me sorprende que sea del mismo director de la primera entrega. maravillosa. read

maybe it's because it opens with the lovin' spoonful's summer in the city, or maybe it's the mid-90's cinematography (from peter menzies jr.) but die hard with a vengeance feels like it's sizzling under a mean heatwave. and the movie absolutely feels all the better for it. the yardstick of john mcclane's effectiveness as a character is in the beatings and physical punishment he can take, underlining the fact he's not a macho ubermensch. he's just a guy. the oppressive heat and sweaty violence seems to be the perfect elements to dirty his shirt and batter him with. he's an ideal punching bag... read

This isn't *quite* as good as the first one, but it's definitely better than the second one. The addition of Samuel L. Jackson is great, and I wish he would have been in more sequels (also gotta love Jeremy Irons).
The best line for sure:
"Are you aiming for these people?" - Zeus
"No! Well maybe that mime." - McClane read

My favourite one so far. Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson work really well together and Jeremy Irons is, unsurprisingly, a great villain. Amazing soundtrack, too. read

Feels overall like an improvement on DH2 but I think taking John McClane out of a claustrophobic "building under hostage" scenario makes it feel a lot more like a generic action movie than a "Die Hard" movie. This would probably be better if they took out all the McClane/Gruber stuff and just let McTiernan make a New York bomb/heist movie with Willis and Jackson as buddies, but it still mostly works as it is. The next time I want to watch a Die Hard movie it will probably just be Die Hard. read
