there are few movies that carry the weight and power to fundamentally change a person for the rest of their lives. this is one of them. read more

astounding. absolutely astounding. the texture of the black and white lends a gravitas that i don't think you'd achieve in full colour. i think you'd focus on the aesthetic look of merrick instead of the emotional side. i felt nothing but sympathy for merrick, especially when he was kidnapped just as he truly found some happiness. the ending lynch shot leaves me with a question; did he sleep that way in a last attempt to try and be normal or to commit suicide as he'd reached, what he felt, was the peak of happiness? read more
