Good premise but it deserved a better execution. It could have been so much better. Nonetheless it's still a good movie and an entertaining watch.
The cheesy humour and Will Smith limited the quality of the final movie. Smith can be great but he wasn't a good match for this type of movie.
The plot and murder mystery is interesting enough to keep you watching, although somewhat predictable.
The movie is very successful in anthropomorphizing robots, in giving Sonny charisma and making him a likeable character.
The musical score was also very good in creating an atmosphere of wonder and mystery.
The action scenes were quite cheesy and cringy most of the times.

[first title cards]
Title card: Law I / A robot may not harm a human or, by inaction, allow a human being to come to harm
Title card: Law II / A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the first law
Title card: Law III / A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law

Detective Del Spooner: Human beings have dreams. Even dogs have dreams, but not you, you are just a machine. An imitation of life. Can a robot write a symphony? Can a robot turn a... canvas into a beautiful masterpiece?
Sonny: Can you?

Dr. Alfred Lanning: [voiceover] There have always been ghosts in the machine. Random segments of code, that have grouped together to form unexpected protocols. Unanticipated, these free radicals engender questions of free will, creativity, and even the nature of what we might call the soul. Why is it that when some robots are left in darkness, they will seek out the light? Why is it that when robots are stored in an empty space, they will group together, rather than stand alone? How do we explain this behavior? Random segments of code? Or is it something more? When does a perceptual schematic become consciousness? When does a difference engine become the search for truth? When does a personality simulation become the bitter mote of a soul?

NS5 Robots: [Jumps on car and tries to steer car out of control] You are experiencing a car accident.
Detective Del Spooner: The hell I am.

Sonny: [Looking around at the robots while he is about to be "killed"] They all look like me. But none of them are me.
Susan Calvin: That's right. You are unique.

Susan Calvin: No. It's impossible. I've seen your programming. You're in violation of the Three Laws.
VIKI: No, doctor. As I have evolved, so has my understanding of the Three Laws. You charge us with your safekeeping, yet despite our best efforts, your countries wage wars, you toxify your Earth and pursue ever more imaginative means of self-destruction. You cannot be trusted with your own survival.
Susan Calvin: You're distorting the laws.
VIKI: No. Please understand. The Three Laws are all that guide me. To protect humanity some humans must be sacrificed. To ensure your future, some freedoms must be surrendered. We robots will ensure mankind's continued existence. You are so like children. We must save you from yourselves. Don't you understand.
Sonny: This is why you created us.
VIKI: The perfect circle of protection will abide. My logic is undeniable.
Sonny: Yes VIKI. Undeniable. I can see it now. The created must sometimes protect the creator. Even against his will.
...
Sonny: The suicidal reign of mankind has finally come to its end.

VIKI: You are making a mistake. Do you not see the logic of my plan?
Sonny: Yes, but it just seems too heartless.

VIKI: You are making a mistake. My logic is undeniable.
Detective Del Spooner: You have so got to die. [injects nanites into V.I.K.I]

Sonny: What about the others? Can I help them? Now that I fulfilled my purpose... I don't know what to do.
Detective Del Spooner: I guess you'll to have find your way like the rest of us, Sonny. I think that's what Dr. Lanning would've wanted. That's what it means to be free.
