The Driver

i really didn't like it. i wanted to, but i didn't. i disliked the characters and found some dialogue and actions weird, artificial, or off-putting, cliched posturing. some of it was the script, some of it was the acting. i suppose the movie wanted to explore something with the cop character, but he was an unrealistic caricature who could unofficially harass anyone in their own home. also, i was bored with the extended car scenes in the first half, especially the demonstration in the parking lot. read more

walter hill continues to fail to really impress me, which in this case is easily explainable by the fact i don't understand the appeal of car chases that don't involve italian plumbers and banana peels. even so his movies are just very lean and have like a bare minimum of content. this isn't necessarily a failing, but even the warriors, which i've always been fond of for more stylistical reasons, doesn't have much meat to it when you break it down. read more
