Review of The Fair Haired Child

william malone directed the house on haunted hill remake which showed a lot of promise and then he directed feardotcom which squandered all that promise. master of horror? i think not (at least not yet as house on haunted hill was a pretty solid flick). anyways... the fair haired child is a pretty standard girl is kidnapped and held in a basement where weird things start to happen story. it's got some creepy imagery and it's pretty entertaining, if a little predictable and for a short film maybe a couple minutes too long. it's also filled with some really wacked out characters and performances that give it an extra surreal touch. i have to give credit where credit is due and say that malone knows how to make things creepy. the fair haired child creature thing, very creppy. the kidnappers, very creepy, the atmosphere very creepy. and he has donea great job making the film look good. it might just be the best looking of all the episodes so far. the camerawork is almost sublime in it's beauty. should i touch on the dream sequences which were very bergmanesque? nah, that sentance alone tells you everything you need to know. i will say that after watching this i would have to say the feardotcom must of been taken away from malone before he finished it as it has no semblance at all as been made by the same man who made this and the haunted hill remake. feardotcome is maybe one of the worst horror movies i ever saw on the big screen. this and the hill remake share many things and you can tell they are made by the same guy. watching this i would say malone does have a strong and good grasp on horror and what makes things scary. he knows how to make things look good and he knows how to tell a story. i don't think he is a master of horror (yet) but give the man a budget and good script and i think he could make a great movie (and maybe become a master). production design: 8 out of 10 cinematography: 9 out of 10 re-playability: 7 out of 10 originality: 7 out of 10 costumes: 8 out of 10 directing: 8 out of 10 editing: 8 out of 10 acting: 7 out of 10 music: 8 out of 10 script: 8 out of 10 78/100
