the characters seemed to be having fun, which is good because i wasn't. i didn't really care how things worked out because most of the characters really weren't terribly likable. gene kelly is a great dancer, but he was a little old to play the young starving artist. it was especially weird to see the older woman who was sponsoring him be played by a woman 10 years younger than kelly. also, leslie caron really felt miscast as the woman who every man falls in love with at first sight. the entire film was just a vehicle for its musical numbers, and they weren't great. there was a lot of great dancing, but that really doesn't do it for me.
