peter berg delivers another exciting true story with the help of mark wahlberg that is both riveting, emotional and gripping. this time, in his usual style he tackles the boston marathon bombing. it's got the same documentary style cinematography, the same lead actor, once again the same sounding music and the same post film documentary/memorial of the victims. this time though he seems to show restraint. this is much more character driven. in his previous films he tends to overshadow characters with action and intensity. here, there are moments of both, but it mainly focuses on characters... read

of peter berg's "heroic american true stories" patriots day is the weakest. the portrayal of the bombing itself is intense and immersive. to berg's credit, he understands that the violence and destruction is horrifying and tragic. he is able to capture it in a way that is not thrilling or exhilarating, but instead nightmarish. unfortunately the manhunt and emotional beats aren't as effective. it is desperately trying to capture the heart and soul of america with big sweeping emotional moments of everyday working class americans and it just doesn't click. it felt like pandering as it tries to... read
