why i was excited to watch this film i will never know but i was. i didn't think it would be very good and i was right. in fact it was pretty lame. i can kind of see why roger corman never directed again after this.
i will say that the sets were pretty good, the make-up and costumes were great and the acting (oaky, only raul julia) was good but that's really about it. some things were okay but some things were just pretty bad.
like john hurt's performance. that man is a legend and a great actor but boy does he ham it up here. it's not bad per say, but it sure is cheesy.
and the story is just dumb, with hurt and his future tech riding around the 18th century. it was cheesy, lame, dumb and unbelievable. the film is also kind of boring, the plot points ridiculous and the frankenstein aspect not touched on enough, not needed and really kind of stupid. and the less said about the 'monster' being 'unbound' the better.
i guess in the end this film was everything i expected it to be. i had a hope that it would be better than it was for some reason but nope, it was exactly as i expected. it actually felt like a straight to video release right out of the 90's only for some reason (probably because corman directed it) it got a theatrical release.
this movie is not really worth your 85 minutes it will take to watch it.
i will say though that the future tech in this film seems pretty spot on. made in 1990 the future car was pretty close to modern day shapes and tech (and i can see it only getting more similar the closer it gets to 2031) and the almost siri like voice commands, the watch hurt has, the whole shebang was very 'today (2016)'. pretty cool and pretty spot on but again a good movie this does not make.
