john ford's take on wyatt earp, tombstone, and the ok corral. that should be incredible, but it just isn't. henry fonda is fine as wyatt earp and he takes this film as far as it will go, but that just isn't enough. i've never been very impressed with victor mature, and his work as doc holliday did nothing to change my opinion.
it doesn't closely follow the actual story of wyatt earp, which is completely fine, but every change that was made just made it a less interesting story. it ends with the gunfight at the ok corral, which is a natural launching point for the most interesting part of earp's story, the vendetta ride.
the talented supporting cast is given very little to do. what is the point of casting ward bond, tim holt, and walter brennan if you aren't going to give them anything to do?
