working girl starts with a bang and it never lets up which is funny to say for a romantic comedy but it's true and it's because it literally starts witha jarring cut to the statue of liberty with carly's simon's let the river run playing loud and it's an epic song that makes you feel good and excited and thrilled and emotional and then the film sets up melanie griffiths story while this amazing song plays in the background and then there are small memorable roles by a young oliver platt and a young kevin spacey and a super skinny super stud alec baldwin and then sigourney weaver shows up and... read

working girl is charming and funny and finds mike nichols working at a pretty high level. while it never reaches the heights of some of his other films, it is a solidly entertaining look at climbing the corporate ladder in a modern corporation and how being a woman complicates and makes that process just that much more difficult of a task. and, while the film is funny and charming most of the way through, there is a certain solemnity to the ending of the film that has some emotional power that i wasn't expecting from the film. working girl tells the story of tess who is continually looking to... read
