excellent cinematography by roger deakins. great performances, good pacing, i just didn't particularly get into any of it. i liked the attention to detail in some scenes, but then when i didn't get a line or a plot development, it left me flabbergasted, wondering if there was something i missed or if it was indeed a leap, random, or intentionally vague. read more

javier bardem wrote the book of acting. the pleasure of cruising is quite high. written script with a fluent narrative. in some scenes, i was bloodied. the tension was pretty good. anton's character is pretty solid. i can say that i am pleased with the subject's start and end points. read more

В фильме вообще нет саундтрека, нету классического Коэновского фарса, относительно мало диалогов, нету даже персонажа еврея. И что иронично, даже играя не на своем поле, они сделали чуть ли не лучший фильм в жанре. Саспенс просто лютейший. Во многом, это как раз заслуга отсутствия саундтрека и крутейшей работы со звуком. От каждого скрипа, шороха и прочего получаешь не меньше удовольствия, чем от операторской работы Дикинса. no country for old men is my favourite kind of film. the one that works both as an allegory you can deconstruct and analyze but also as an entertaining movie with a surface level story. just about everything in this is excellent - from acting to cinematography to pacing to writing. classic case of a rewatch that i went into with high expectations without being let down. read more

Javier Bardem is a stone golem with a voice of pure bass. You can't tell me this movie wasn't as much a horror as it was a western. The Coen Brothers have always enjoyed grizzly death on screen, and Bardem's performance as a rampaging hitman will give me chills for weeks to come. This is not just "some film" or "an okay movie", it is in my opinion, one of the best movies of all time. Its won 33 awards including academy award for Best picture, Best supporting actor, Best Director and Best writing adapted screenplay in 2007. It stars a cast of incredible actors, Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Rodger Boyce among others. The movie opens with the flat, confiding voice of Tommy Lee Jones. He describes a teenage killer he once sent to the chair. The boy had killed his 14-year-old girlfriend. The papers described it as a crime of passion, "but he tolt me there weren't nothin' passionate about it. Said he'd been fixin' to kill someone for as long as he could remember. This movie would be a 5/5 if I wasn't so perplexed by it upon first viewing. I'm sure it could do with a rewatch, maybe an analyses video on YouTube, because it certainly isn't a film to take at surface value.
