carrie is one of those classics that i think i would've been disappointed in no matter what, even if i did like it a lot. which i did. it all has to do with expectations, which are naturally high for me, given that carrie is often among the top of the lists of the best horror films of all time. it's even tarantino's eighth favorite film ever. with all that in mind, carrie is a pretty good, iconic horror flick that pretty much anyone who likes horror films has to have seen by now.
the film isn't that great technically or anything like that, but it is consistently entertaining, with an engrossing story that holds you along through its brisk run time. bolstered by the excellent main performance of spissy spacek, who is almost as good a horror-screamer as sheryl lee. my main issue with the film is that the last half hour is only where it gets really great. the first hour was good, sure, but it was definitely more uninspired, i'd say. on the whole, carrie is for sure a good movie that i would recommend to just about everyone. it was just missing something for me for it to qualify up there as a classic. maybe it's just me and my expectations.
