carrie is a fantastic movie for so many reasons it becomes almost hard to list them all. it is one of the best stephen king adaptations and that is saying something now 41 years later. it is one of de palma's best movies made at the peak of his creativity. it is just perfect, or near perfect. telling the story of a girl with psychic powers who comes from a home with a religious and crazy mom and a school that taunts her there really hasn't been and probably never will be a director like de palma who can pull this story off. he does such a good job that i think this film is in many ways better... read more

my only major complaint would be that bernard herrmann's psycho score kept being reprised which really took me out of the film, and some scenes don't really work. other than that, this was really engaging and creepy (especially the house's atmosphere). i was not expecting to care for carrie as much as i did. the final 30 minutes are amazingly paced and edited. read more

Religion sure does have a lot of misogynistic sentiments that cause religious women to hate themselves and view women as lower than men huh. Better than I thought it would be. Some really cool cinematography and editing in this movie even if some of it serves to create unintentionally silly moments due to the dated nature of how they try to make it horror in addition to some silly musical stings and sound effects. i was way off on my first viewing of carrie. this is a fantastically shot film, visual storytelling at its finest. you could pretty much shut the sound off and understand the plot of the film. of course, everyone remembers the prom sequences; they are amazing. i loved the colors utilized, the dancing sequence, the gods eye view of the floor and view of the bucket of blood and the zoom to carrie and tommy, the slow motion shots of carries high point in her high school life, and the subsequent visuals of the destruction of the school with some shots utilizing split screen. sissy spacek is read more

film 62 of obligatory october of horror ii jumpscare counter: just one and it's a very good good one a combination of coming of age and horror can make for some absolutely awesome films and this is definitely one of those. this one comes with themes of womanhood (yet another great thing to combine horror with) and religious repression and slowly builds to a grand finale. the entire middle third felt kind of mundane and boring and some characters seemed rather weak but the entire last third of the film is genuinely some of the best horror i've seen. hard to say if my rating will stay at 8 or... read more

My quick rating - 8;1/10. I doubt I need to focus on the story since not only has this been redone; but has been played countless times everywhere. Sum up; troubled teen gets made fun of and is pushed to the brink of revenge after a terrible act of bloody riducle (pigs blood that is). Well, as an adaptation it was pretty spot on (except some minor changes). The only thing I disliked was the use of the "Psycho screech," I felt like that made it seem like Carrie was a freak and I prefer to look at her as a sympathetic character. I wanna see a Superhero movie version of Carrie where she gets accepted as an X-men or something. She deserved better :'( read more
