excellent movie, taking its time to unfurl ("come on! put the glasses on!"), sometimes surprising (where other movies would have had the lead team up with the woman, they live eschews that in favor of a blue-collar buddy movie) and still cuttingly relevant. it's completely unsubtle about its themes, and the fact that they are still so true today almost distracts from the movie itself. some great dialogue too and no cheesiness. back in the 80s, carpenter sure knew how to do them horrors. read more

what happens when you take classic carpenter from the 80's, mix him with humour, aliens, a low budget, a classic score, endlessly quotable dialogue, action, a cast of carpenter regulars and a wrestler? why you get they live. they live is a purposely made b-movie full of b-movie tropes and b-movie acting and b-movie effects. the only problem is john carpenter directed it and at this point he was so good at directing that it transcends it's b-movie roots and has become a genuine classic. why a classic? well first off there is the amazing and long and just awesome fight to put on the sunglasses.... read more
