they just don't make em like this anymore and that's probably a good thing but it's also lit like "the crate" from creepshow and i miss denzel (can't believe he did this in the same year as virtuosity) and remember when the 90's were obsessed with submarine movies????? anyway the gist of this movie is about two submarine commanders who disagree about blowing up a russian sub, and then when all's said and done the movie ends with what is supposed to put us at ease about something similar happening again by telling us that since 1996 this responsibility now falls on the president of the read more

I thought this could be a run of the mill political thriller but I was wrong. While evoking the Cuban missile crisis of 1 person standing in the way of a nuclear war comes Crimson Tide. Denzel/Hackman together is a thing of beauty. They go back and forth with such intensity, it's just captivating, both are bringing their A game. Rounded out with Viggo Mortensen and James Gandalfini it's just a great cast. I've seen a lot of political thrillers, but having it also be in 1 location is my jam.
