Review of The Family Stone

thank jesus, i cleansed with this after love, actually. no, i didn't just have sex. it was the exact opposite, actually. i'm not beating around the bush anymore. after the p.o.s that was love actually, i need to get my p.t.s.d out in the open and lay my heart on the keyboard. this is one of my favorite holiday films as well as one of my favorite dramas. i have watched this a half dozen times and this was the best viewing yet. so many fine details that unravel these layered characters. i love everyone's diversity and their flaws. i love how the ending is life in a nutshell. i love the lack of fluffy filler characters and backstories that plague ensemble films. i've also never paid attention to how perfect the directing is in this. every scene is meticulously set up to look like we're just following everyone from room to room. it creates a sense of togetherness which leads to some exceptionally realistic actions and performances that would otherwise be edited together artificially. the house is just as much a character in this film and worthy of praise. i would be an absolute liar if i didn't admit that i got a mix of scratchy throat and heavy eyes throughout this whole film. yes, that's a man's way of saying "tearing up". but i didn't say that, now, did i. (yelling from a desktop) i actually love the family stone and i don't care who knows it!. fuck all y'all & have a merry christmas!
